Note: If you have not been getting JoyNotes messages and you are using either AOL or Bellsouth and a few others.... they have updated their Spam Controls and JoyNotes is apparently a victim. I will leave this message up for a while.. because a lot of folks are wondering. Also for many people on these systems.. it doesn't work for me to email you back.. because my emails are blocked. So if you have another email address you might want to subscribe on that one.
Well, the best laid plans of mice and nuns.... the new card site is on hold. Problems. Yep. Right here in River City. Big ones, little one.. problems.... so lah de dah... give us another week or two and we shall try again.
All weekend long I kept getting automated messages from the Doctor's office with an important message for Margery Proctor (my mom) and to call this number. I call the number. It says to get this message you will need a med number. I don't have a med number. So I hang up. Thanks automated messages that make you worry for nothing... you can't even yell at them. They don't care. I think my mom is okay.. because the place she is at watches her very closely - and tomorrow (Monday) I shall find out what that important automated Medical message was.
One good thing - I got the pond fountain to flow the best it has all Spring. I think I am getting the hang of priming the pumps and cleaning out stuff.. and that gives me a good measure of satisfaction. Course better not take too much credit... I was calling on the Blessed Mother and my guardian angel quite a bit... together we got it! I don't think I call on my guardian angel enough.
Sister Colleen's parents are here and Lillian (her mother) was telling us how she kept the deer off of her roses and tomato plants. She had tried all sorts of things and finally just told her guardian angel to watch over them. Not a nother nibble from the deer. In the fall when the last tomato was taken in - she told her guardian angel it was okay now.. and the next morning the deer came and ate all the leaves off the tomoato plants. So that little story has convinced me I'm not calling on my angel enough.
I have something to share with you. I got this quote today from my spiritual director. It is very good. It might just be what you need too.
"It helps, now and then, to step back and take the long view. The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts; it is even beyond our view. We accomplish in our lifetime only a fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God"s work. Nothing we do is complete, which is another way of saying the kingdom always lies beyond us. We plan the seeds that one day will grow; We water the seeds already planted, knowing they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We cannot do everything and there is a sense of liberation realizing that. We may never see the results, but that is the difference between the master building (God) and the worker. We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own. Amen" Archbp.Oscar Romero

What Are You Waiting For?
Tonie E. Tellander
Laredo, Texas
My friend Sarah and I had developed the practice of praying the daily rosary for many intentions. Strangely, it was hardly ever for ourselves or our families.
Sarah's daughter had married a Protestant years back, and at the time of the wedding this had been the cause of a great disagreement between mother and daughter. Sarah couldn't understand why they couldn't be married in the Catholic Church, but the son-in-law to be would not have it, and after much discussion and tension, the daughter finally just decided to have her wedding in Las Vegas. End of story.
Years passed and my friend and I, through the daily praying of the rosary, continued to grow through our own conversion. One night she impishly delighted in sharing with me that her grandchildren from said daughter had taken to playing with the rosary that hung from her bedpost. Sarah asked me if she ought to buy some for them, or would this cause friction?

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage
Gracious Care
Psalm 111:5
He has given food to those who fear him;
he will forever be mindful of his covenant.
The Lord faithfully provided food for the Israelites in the desert because he was ever mindful of the covenant he had made with them. In the liturgy of the church, the manna was always considered a type, or figure of the Eucharist.
Jesus promised us the bread of heaven; he prepared us for it, and, true to his covenant, he gave us himself in the Eucharist as his farewell gift to us.
St. Paul reminds us that we must also be true to the covenant: "Every time, then, you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes!" (1 Cor 11:26)

Daily Readings
|
Jun 2 Mon: Ordinary Weekday/ Marcellinus and Peter, mts
From today's readings:
“Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with devotion, devotion with mutual affection, mutual affection with love.... In You, my God, I place my trust.... A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press, and built a tower, then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on a journey. ”
Faith Supplements
There’s certainly no substitute for faith, but, as the Second Letter of St. Peter reminds us, there are supplements, and we do well to make sure these all are part of our spiritual diet!
First mentioned is virtue, moral excellence, making right choices - it’s hard to imagine true faith without this crucial supplement! For, if we have faith in God as our God, we need to live our lives as He teaches us to live.
But virtue, in turn, needs the additional aid of knowledge, reason, open eyes - for, twisted fanaticism results from blind commitments to do what is believed to be right, when one doesn’t make the effort to fully learn what is right.
Knowledge, to continue growing, requires self-control, focus, effort - for, starting with ourselves, everyone knows that a know-it-all certainly does not know it all!
But self-control doesn’t amount to much without endurance, perseverance, steadfastness - only with a long-term commitment and consistent follow-through can the great things in life be accomplished.
Endurance, for its part, must be guided with devotion, godliness, true religion - the great undertakings of our lives should be pursued altruistically for the sake of God, not for selfish reasons.
Devotion to God will be of no avail, however, unless accompanied with mutual affection, brotherly love, true care for others - the incarnation of Jesus is the fullest reminder to incarnate love of God with love of neighbor.
Even mutual affection, though, needs purification and sanctification, in order to be transformed into the ideal of Christian love, the sacrificial agape of dying to self in order to live fully for God in the fulness of holy faith supplemented with virtue, knowledge, self-control, endurance, devotion, mutual affection....
