Saints Marcellinus and Peter
Pope St. Damasus is the source for much of the information concerning these two
men. His account says that the story of the martyrdom of these two men was
given to him by their executioner who later became a Christian. Marcellinus, a
priest, and Peter, an exorcist, died in the year 304. According to a legendary
account of their martyrdom, the two Romans saw their imprisonment as just one
more opportunity to evangelize and managed to convert their jailer and his family.
The legend also says that they were beheaded in the forest so that other
Christians wouldn't have a chance to bury and venerate their bodies. Their bodies
were found and taken away by two women and buried on the Via Labicana.
Though we know very little about these two men martyred during the rule of
Diocletian, there is no question that the early church venerated them. One piece of
evidence showing the respect in which they were held is the basilica Constantine
built over their tombs and the presence of their names in the first Eucharistic
prayer.

Note: If you have not been getting JoyNotes messages and you are using either AOL or Bellsouth and a few others.... they have updated their Spam Controls and JoyNotes is apparently a victim. I will leave this message up for a while.. because a lot of folks are wondering. Also for many people on these systems.. it doesn't work for me to email you back.. because my emails are blocked. So if you have another email address you might want to subscribe on that one.
Well, the best laid plans of mice and nuns.... the new card site is on hold. Problems. Yep. Right here in River City. Big ones, little one.. problems.... so lah de dah... give us another week or two and we shall try again.
All weekend long I kept getting automated messages from the Doctor's office with an important message for Margery Proctor (my mom) and to call this number. I call the number. It says to get this message you will need a med number. I don't have a med number. So I hang up. Thanks automated messages that make you worry for nothing... you can't even yell at them. They don't care. I think my mom is okay.. because the place she is at watches her very closely - and tomorrow (Monday) I shall find out what that important automated Medical message was.
One good thing - I got the pond fountain to flow the best it has all Spring. I think I am getting the hang of priming the pumps and cleaning out stuff.. and that gives me a good measure of satisfaction. Course better not take too much credit... I was calling on the Blessed Mother and my guardian angel quite a bit... together we got it! I don't think I call on my guardian angel enough.
Sister Colleen's parents are here and Lillian (her mother) was telling us how she kept the deer off of her roses and tomato plants. She had tried all sorts of things and finally just told her guardian angel to watch over them. Not a nother nibble from the deer. In the fall when the last tomato was taken in - she told her guardian angel it was okay now.. and the next morning the deer came and ate all the leaves off the tomoato plants. So that little story has convinced me I'm not calling on my angel enough.
I have something to share with you. I got this quote today from my spiritual director. It is very good. It might just be what you need too.
?It helps, now and then, to step back and take the long view. The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts; it is even beyond our view. We accomplish in our lifetime only a fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God?s work. Nothing we do is complete, which is another way of saying the kingdom always lies beyond us. We plan the seeds that one day will grow; We water the seeds already planted, knowing they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We cannot do everything and there is a sense of liberation realizing that. We may never see the results, but that is the difference between the master building (God) and the worker. We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own. Amen? Archbp.Oscar Romero
