Quote for the Day:
Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayers and supplication. To that end keep alert with perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:18

Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

Today is the last day of the Presale for the book. Whew. Sort of glad it is over and can move into phase II. Whatever that might be. My Spiritual director says it is now time to leave it in God's hands. Well, gosh of course I have put it into God's hands all along. I just sort of take it back now and then!

Here is a picture of the small Power of Prayer cards I am having printed up for the Publicity Squad. I think they will be very pretty!

power

The good news is that the Author books are on their way....took 15 cases of books to Aunties bookstore for the presale orders... so they will soon be on their way. The bad news is that I did not have enough books sent from the printer... and so the presale orders from the last couple of days.. will be a bit slower. Expect five more days I think to arrive here... and then be shipped out from Aunties. Sigh. Just didn't plan well enough on the count.

I am also on pins and needles waiting for the new Franciscan Card site to be finished. Ho hum de dum. I saw a preview look of it and was soooo impressed. I think you will be too... but of course.. how it works... now there is a good question, eh? Guess I am supposed to be putting that into God's hands too. Geesh. What is there left for me to worry about?

Hmmm.....maybe just paying the bills? Is God handling that? Of course He is... I know that... sure, why should I worry about that part? I don't know..maybe just something I inherited. My dad was a great worrier .... he could worry up a snow storm in July. Something of that must have drizzled down.

I actually am not really worried... let's just call it anxious anticipation? That sounds a little more faith filled doesn't it?

A number of years ago, I was privileged to meet a woman who greatly impacted my life. Her name was Sister Josepha McNutt of the Child Jesus, a Missionary Servant of the Blessed Trinity. She lived and worked at Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat in Alabama.

This wonderful woman was filled with a love of life and of others that was amazing to see. Just being around her was an inspiration. Sister Josepha eventually became my spiritual advisor. I met with her once a month and grew to greatly love her.

During the next few years, Sister Josepha helped me through difficult times and rejoiced with me over the happy ones. Her presence and guidance became a major part of my life. With her encouragement, I felt that I could do anything, and after a while, decided to become a lay member of the Missionary Cenacle Apostolate.

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage

Poetry in Plenty

Psalm 65:12-13
You have crowned the year with your bounty,
and your paths overflow with a rich harvest;
The untilled meadows overflow with it,
and rejoicing clothes the hills.

This pastoral image poetically portrays God's goodness in providing us with a rich harvest as he crowns each year with his bounty.

The overflowing abundance of the untilled meadows reminds us that while God expects our cooperation and industry, he alone can give the increase.

St. Paul's statement is so accurate: "I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. This means that neither he who plants nor he who waters is of any special account, only God, who gives the growth." (1 Cor 3:6f)

Gabby: You hurt my feelings!

Raphael: Why do you always have to have feelings?

On a personal note…

On Marriage

One of my best-loved poets is the mystic, Kahlil Gibran. His book, ‘The Prophet’, is one that I have carried in my heart for many years. It is not one that can be read in one sitting: it has to be savoured and treasured. Today I thought I would share with you one of his many beautiful reflections, that on marriage. Whether or not one is married, this poem has a loveliness that can still be cherished. God bless, Sr. Janet ———

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

Daily Readings
May 28 Wed: Ordinary Weekday

From today's readings: “Since you have purified yourselves by obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another intensely from a pure heart.... Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.... For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many....”

The Ransom that was Paid

“Redeemer” is one of the titles Christians recognize for Jesus Christ, but sometimes, we fail to appreciate the full denotation of that word in the context of salvation. We commonly speak of the custom of “redeeming” coupons, but that’s completely different from the act of “redeeming” souls!

The Latin root of this word means “to buy back” or “to ransom,” and that’s exactly what Jesus did for all mankind - since everyone’s life was forfeit as the wages of sin, Jesus, by laying down His life on the Cross, paid the ransom and bought back our life. As the first letter of Peter puts it, we were truly redeemed “not with perishable things like silver or gold but with the precious Blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished Lamb.”

If someone were to bail us out of bankruptcy, what gratitude we would surely feel! And even more so, if someone were to save our physical life! Yet, the redemption wrought by Jesus applies to nothing less than our eternal souls, and so our redemption can’t be repaid with any money in the world or ever earned with even a whole lifetime of service as a slave! Redemption is wholly the gift of God, and the best we can do is humbly, gratefully accept the gift, and use it as the Giver and Redeemer intends.....
