Every day is a Messenger of God
For more beautiful cards All Cards
Had a lovely day today. Was too windy and cold to eat our barbecued hamburgers outside to celebrate Memorial Day - but we enjoyed them just as much inside! Sister Colleen's mom and dad are visiting us for a few days and her mom volunteered to do the barbecue! Simply delicious. She also made potato salad. I totally love potato salad. In my book anyone who makes potato salad gets immediate points for canonization. No questions asked. Some things are just more divine that others.
Today's Mass for memorial day was very beautiful too. Father Alberic (our chaplain) gave a wonderful sermon on the gift and sacrifice of so many men and women that have secured liberty for us. We remember them each and every day at Mass but today was a very special day to remember not only those who gave their lives.. but those who continue to bear the cross through injury of heart, soul and body from their days of duty. Also I think it is important to remember those who grieve over them and continue to suffer with their loved ones sacrifice. Often times it is a lifetime sacrifice - but one, I pray God rewards with great blessings if not now - surely in the life to come.
Today also, Barb and I worked on getting the Author's free books into mailing packages and hopefully, God willing - they will be on their way tomorrow. Bit by bit all the loose ends are being wrapped up. The Publicity Squad free books will be going out very soon as well.. but they are going from the printer. There was a delay because I had something else printed to put in them. Small faith cards - a little bigger than a business card that I hope will be easy to pass out to friends. I think they will be really nice. I will share a picture of them tomorrow, getting late now.

Do Not Forget the Holy Spirit
Anonymous
Binghamton, New York
In my late twenties and early thirties, I taught part time at a nearby university. My classes were in the late afternoon when my husband could care for our four young children. While I was confident about their care, I was feeling increasingly uncomfortable about spending so much time in a chaotic, secular environment that was both mentally and emotionally demanding. Despite praying before leaving the car to walk across campus, I was not able to preserve a sense of peace and found it difficult to even remember God once my foot touched the campus pavement.
One Saturday, early in the fall semester, I went to the local church where I knew a priest would be available for spiritual direction. After waiting in line, I walked into the room where Father Grace was sitting at a table. He gestured for me to sit across from him and I began to share my concerns. I told him how saddened I was that I wasn't able to remember our Lord during my working hours, how discouraging it was to feel so alone while walking across the big campus and teaching, and how even the briefest thought of God was immediately whisked away the moment a student caught my eye or stopped to chat. I knew that my students suffered from the lack of a faith-filled professor and my own children suffered because of the lack of peace that I brought home with me.

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage
Fullness of Life
Psalm 23:6
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
for years to come.
In his goodness and kindness, Jesus, our Good Shepherd, rescued us from condemnation by his redeeming love and showed us the path through the dark valley of our earthly exite into our heavenly home.
His goodness and kindness leads us to the fullness of life so that we can "dwell in the house of the Lord." Jesus tells us that this is precisely why he came:
"I came that they might have life
and have it to the full." (Jn 10:10)

Unconfident
Gabrielle approached me this afternoon with a worried look. She turned around to show me the back of her dress.
“Is this tied the right way?” she wanted to know.
“Yes,” I told her.
“A bow with two loops?” she pressed.
“Yes.”
“And the strings are hanging down the sides?”
She stretched her neck, trying to see her back.
“It looks very nice, Gabby,” I assured her. “Are you worried because you tied it yourself?”
“No,” she rolled her eyes. “Papa did it.”

On a personal note…
The place of the possible
“The place of the possible” That might well describe Rome, especially where the roots of Christianity are concerned. All that is needed is a basic knowledge of the way in which human beings function in ordinary daily life.
For instance, if Peter and Paul were together in Rome for a period of time, it is perfectly possible that, at some stage, they said goodbye to each other. It is equally possible that they were escorted by at least one of their early companions. It is equally possible, because it’s the way in which our minds function, that the early Church remembered the exact spot at which the two men parted and also that it was the last time that they were together before their capture and execution. It is, therefore, not impossible that, when it was safe to do so, a small memorial of that event was put in place to remind people, including those of future generations, that ‘this place is special, and here’s why’.

Daily Readings
|
May 27 Tue: Ordinary Weekday/ Augustine of Canterbury, bp, r, ms
From today's readings:
“Like obedient children, do not act in compliance with the desires of your former ignorance but, as He who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct.... The Lord has made known His salvation.... Peter began to say to Jesus: We have given up everything and followed You....”
Fully Informed
To be legally binding, a new law must be officially promulgated and publicized, in order to uphold the maxim, “Ignorance of the law is no excuse.” For, if the enactment of a new law were to be deliberately concealed, how could citizens be expected to comply with it? But since all laws are publicly authorized, it becomes the reasonable responsibility of citizens to learn at least about all the laws which would apply to their state, and thus whoever refuses to study such essentials clearly risks the worst penalties.
Likewise, “the Lord has made known His salvation.” Divine Revelation completely publicizes God’s expectations for the moral conduct of all who are subject to His law (that includes everyone who is, who ever was, and who ever will be!). A well-formed conscience, the light of human reason, the Natural Law, the words of Sacred Scripture, and the teachings of the Church’s Magisterium all corroborate and converge on the eternal Truth of God’s law, so ignorance of His law is no excuse!
This implies, though, that those who stubbornly ignore or reject those guides thus clearly risk the worst penalties. Fortunately for us, God does not promulgate new laws every day, so there is no burden of keeping up with the latest divine legislation. However, it’s important to note that such statutory permanency increases, rather than decreases, our reasonable responsibility for learning about all the God-given laws which apply to our state in life. Sadly, in almost all cases, people are poorly informed about God’s law simply because they don’t see it as something with practical importance. I’m always amazed, for instance, at how many people can’t even recall the 10 Commandments, yet the same people are often enough quite well informed about principles that are exponentially more complex, yet infinitely less significant, such as the 10 major points of the M.L.B.’s official rules of baseball. Ignorance and violation of the laws of a sport leads even the repentant only to forfeiture of the game, but ignoring and violating the laws of God leads only the unrepentant even to losing a soul!
