Quote for the Day:
Heaven is full of answers to prayer for which no one ever bothered to ask.

Billy Graham

Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

Today was one of those days.. I just don't want to talk about. Nothing totally bad happened.. just stupid things that may or may not reflect on my mental status. Like okay.. its sort of living in the "Stupid Zone" today. I sort of had my day planned - and then God said, "Oh, that sounds like too easy a day.... here let's put a little more pizzazz into it. The "pizzazz" was that I had to do doctor appointment runs... first a sister and then a call that said my mom has.... guess what? Yes! Another UTI.... so back to the doctor.

I thought I could handle all this.. but unknown to me my brain had not checked in for duty today. Where it was or is, I have no idea - because its still out. AND then we have all these "detours" and then we have a major rain storm so you can hardly see to drive anyway... and put all this in one pot and stir.. and really, I'm surprised I made it back at all.

NOW... I have something to tell you... that may put some of you into panic.. but I just have to tell you anyway. It's about the card site. I know, I know we moved the last time and it was a disaster and many of you were SO GLAD when I returned to the old one....well... take a couple of aspirin or something because in a little while.... not sure how long.... I'm doing it again.

This is a brand new site...Our community hired a top web designer and engineer to create for us. The team has been working on it for several weeks.. and I received notice.... that its getting close. So.. lets all have a moment of prayer that this time.. it will work! Please God... please make it work!

And the latest on the book.... as we speak.. the books are on trucks and making their way to the stores.....zoom... zoom...zoom... They will hopefully arrive Friday or Monday and then be shipped out from Aunties or St. Francis Online soon after if you ordered a book. Do give them a little time though to pack and ship em from the stores.

The Perfect Arrow

My twenty-first birthday was the worst day of my life. Craig, our little baby boy was only three months old that morning when I took him to the pediatrician for a check-up. The doctor did not like what he saw. He called in another doctor. They looked him over, shook their heads and took some more tests. Finally, very somberly, they told me that our little boy’s head was growing too rapidly.

I did not know what this meant, but I knew by their demeanor it was not good. My whole world began to turn upside down. I found it difficult to breathe as I tried to comprehend what this might mean. Then they told me we needed to take him immediately to Chicago University for further evaluation.

It was a very sober trip. My husband’s parents accompanied us on the long one hundred and fifty mile trip. We were in shock as we drove down the highway, praying for a miracle, praying that the doctors would be wrong and everything would be okay.

But the news they gave us there was even worse. “Craig,” they quietly told us, “has less than a year to live.” We looked at them in disbelief. We looked at one another in disbelief. We looked at our little baby boy, so small and still in the incubator where they had placed him. “It would be best for him if you leave him with us,” they continued. “He will need special care. We have the equipment, the technology, and the knowledge to keep him comfortable and without pain. You will not be able to care for him adequately.”

This we had not expected. We were not prepared for such harsh news. Leave our child in the hospital? Until he died? We did not know what to do. Finally, we told them we would go home and decide what we were going to do. For the time, baby Craig could stay with them.

I Will Pasture My Sheep

Throughout sacred Scripture we find the image of the Good Shepherd used to remind us of God's loving providence, nurturing, protecting, and providing for us without interruption.

With every respiration, we breath in God-given oxygen to sustain and energize us. Every step we take is granted to guide us in our daily work. Every morsel of food is another proof of our Father's providential love.

May this week be a grateful, loving response to so gracious and generous a Father.

On a personal note…

When did you last listen to some ‘Golden Oldies’?

Just by way of an interesting exercise, try listening to some of the many songs that emerged from the days of the Musicals. If you do so, you’ll find that even some of the saddest songs still manage to have tunes that can be hummed or sung at moments when sad thoughts could not be further from one’s mind.

What of the singers themselves? Did they always feel as though they were bursting for joy when singing that ‘June is bursting out all over’ or ‘Oh what a beautiful morning!’ or ‘I’m singin’ in the rain’? Did they sometimes put on an act so that they were actually saying to the world, ‘Smile, though your heart be breaking’? At a moment of proclaiming that ‘the hills are alive with the sound of music’, were there also, perhaps, a few seconds when the singer might have felt that ‘Pore Jud is dead’ might have been more appropriate?

There is something about a song that conveys a meaning much deeper than its mere words or melody. If this were not so, why would we have songs that we somehow associate with people and places, with moods and events?

How often do we acknowledge that there are times when it is ‘the singer, not the song’, that is important? On other occasions, the singer is unimportant because of the message that is conveyed in the melody.

What if the ‘Meistersinger’ is God? What is the song that he is singing to me and within me at this moment? Is there is a difference between God and his song? Is not his song also his Word?

Could it be that God’s song is actually Jesus? Do I listen to God singing Jesus into my life?

What song could I sing to him that would speak most truly of who he is to me at this very moment?

God bless,
Sr. Janet

Daily Readings
May 21 Wed: Ordinary Weekday/ Christopher Magallanes, p, & co., mts

From today's readings: “So for one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, it is a sin.... Blessed are the poor in spirit; the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.... For whoever is not against us is for us. ”

You know what to do....

"Doing the right thing" is not always easy, a fact that the sins of our lives give sad testimony about. To be sure, there are times when it's difficult even to know what is the right thing to do, which is why it's essential for us to practice virtue in even small matters, and to educate our consciences with continuing schooling from the divine Teacher and the Magisterium of His Church.

But more often than not, we do know, with the help of God's light, what is the right thing to do, so when we fail to do it, the breakdown betrays a selfish or an anemic will much more often than a retarded or deficient intellect. Note that, even when there is no obvious transgression of divine commandments, as St. James points out, simply refraining from doing the right thing is a clear wrong in itself, a "sin of omission," in common parlance.

Personally, I know I'm far too fast to excuse my many sins of omission - I'm busy, or tired, or distracted, or unprepared, or not absolutely sure what is best - there's always some seemingly good reason to simply not quite get around to doing what God has patiently helped me realize really is the right thing to do. But all such self-justifications come from the Devil's Excuse Mill! So, instead of short-changing our God-given will by with poor rationalizations for not doing the right thing, you and I need to invest ourselves in the portfolio of Providence, for whenever God shows us, in whatever manner, what is the right thing to do, He concurrently pledges to assist us with super sufficient grace to just do it!
