Quote for the Day:
Sometimes people ask me this question: "If God does not wish
us toask for material things, but for Himself, the Giver of all
good, why does the Bible never say: Do not pray for this or that,
pray simply for the Holy Spirit? Why has this never been been clearly
expressed? 'I reply, Because He knew that people would never
begin to pray if they could not ask for earthly things like riches
and health and honours; He says to Himself: If they ask for such
things the desire for something better will awaken in them, and
finally they will only care about the higher things.

Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

I took a little footage of Pi (my parrot) this morning and was going to share that with you.... but when I tried to upload it to the computer said it wasn't in the right format. Don't know what that is about. Always something.

It's definitely Spring and Pi is on the move. Every time I looked around she was out of her "enclosure" and chewing on my shoestrings. Very cute, but I'm always afraid I'm going to step on her or something... so then I bring her up to the desk and she decides I need a few papers shredded and gets busy. The problem is she doesn't care what the paper is, important, unimportant... all the same to Pi... lets get nibbling!

Slowly, bit by bit I am trying to reply to all the wonderful folks who replied to the Publicity Squad - if you haven't heard from me yet... stay tuned.. may take a week yet but we will get there!

Also, THANK YOU to those who sent a few words of endorsement for the books. I will get to you too! Hopefully this side of the moon phase.... but who knows... life keeps getting in the way of plans.

Blessings Of Peace And All Good,
Sister Patricia

P.S. Today I did my program for, "Faith, Hope and Action" on the fly. It was an hour to the time the program was to air and I hadn't done it or even rounded up a person to interview...SO... Sr. Colleen got roped in for the job. It was fun... off the cuff but fun. I will share it with you tomorrow for anyone who wants to listen a bit to what Poor Clare life is like - from another opinion besides myself!

A Silly Prayer Story
Laurie Obidowski
Brampton, Ontario, Canada

My husband and I are seniors and not up to snuff when it comes to technology and all those new gadgets. Our children, God bless them, try to keep us up to date by gifting us with machines that perform all sorts of wonderful things.

On a hot day last summer, the power went off for about an hour. Then everything came back on except our TV. One blank blue screen was all we got. We called the cable company and they said everything was fine at their end. The neighbors TVs on the same system as ours were also working fine.

We pushed buttons and read and reread the manual. Nothing worked and we got frustrated and even a bit angry at our seeming incompetence. Finally, we decided to let the TV rest for awhile and try later. Four hours later we tried again but still saw nothing but the blue screen. We pushed more buttons, uttered some nasty words and looked at each other. There was nothing else that we could do except sit and stare at the blue screen.

Oh great, we thought: now we will have to call some repair person and it will be expensive!

Forever

Psalm 113:4-6

High above all nations is the Lord,
above the heavens is his glory.
Who is like the Lord, our God, who is enthroned on high
and looks upon the heavens and the earth below?

The Lord's attributes are mighty and many. We cannot possibly comprehend their infinity. He is Lord of heaven and earth. He is the Creator and sustainer of the immense universe calling each star by name.

He is also a God present to us, abiding with us and in us. He knows our every concern and is present to support and encourage us. He remains with us above all to let us know how much he loves us. Little wonder that we want to burst forth with enthusiastic praise of our Lord and God.

Jesus declared his kingship before Pilate: "My kingdom does not belong to this world....As it is, my kingdom is not here." (Jn 18:36)

On a personal note…

The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended

A few minutes ago, three fighter jets flew by the house in close formation. Hopefully, within a few minutes more, there will be another fly past. Will they be the Red Arrows, I wonder? The iconic RAF display team is wonderful to watch, and, at sunset, if they trail the red, white and blue smoke, they will look wonderful as they dart over the Thames, past the Houses of Parliament and circle Buckingham Palace.

There will also be a gun salute which, in the quieter atmosphere of evening, should be in hearing distance, even if the guns will be fired from the battery stand close to St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Hopefully, within the space of a single hour, Princes William and Harry will have helped to raise £1 million for those military who have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan and who are being treated at the special hospital and rehabilitation unit south of London.

It is a special event, to be sure, but would it not be even more special were it to be declared this evening that war, fighting and bloodshed were to be abolished throughout the world and for ever?

This morning, I had occasion to interview a priest in Myanmar about the terrible tragedy that has devastated the country during the past few days.

Hearing a firsthand account over the telephone was considerably more real than listening to reports on radio or television.

Would it not be wonderful if the world could change and, instead of the power and greed of a few, there could be the generosity and courage of the many leading the way?

Prince of Peace and King of Love, may your kingdom come and not mine.

May your will be done, and not mine.

God bless,
Sr. Janet

Daily Readings
May 8 Thu: Easter Weekday

From today's readings: “I am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead.... Keep me, O God, for in You I take refuge.... I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word....”

Unity and Communion

Concluding His priestly prayer at the end of the Last Supper, Jesus expressed His longing for unity and communion among His disciples, “ut omnes unum sint” (“that they may all be one”) that they would reflect the absolute communion and unity of Jesus with God the Father.

All Christians long and pray for this unity among believers, ut omnes unum sint, that there be an end to division and discord in the mystical body of Christ. To our prayers, we must join our own whole-hearted commitment to charity and to truth, for unity and communion is impossible without life being immersed in divine love and guided by the fullness of truth.

This means that every one of us needs to begin by repenting of sins against charity and striving daily to put into practice the divine command that we love one another as He has loved us. It also means that each of us needs to accept all the teachings of Christ and His Church, no matter how demanding or difficult some may find them, for those who reject even part of Christ’s Gospel thus reject part of the one true foundation for unity and communion!
