  Need Help?

Blessed Basil Hopko 1904 - 1976

I had to endure many difficult moments, which I would not wish even on my worst enemies. Nevertheless, I consider my prison days as a higher education in humility. In prison I learned a great many things, as how to be of service to others in their need. Prison in itself is not such a terrible place after all. What is frightening is the company one is forced to keep, being locked up in the same cell with all kinds of criminals, spies, insane, and some other strange characters.
Blessed Basil
"Prisoner for the Lord"
O Christ, our Lord and Savior, in Your boundless love for the human race You assured us that "whatever we will ask You, You will do it for us".

Encouraged by your living promise, we humbly ask You to glorify Your faithful servant, Bishop Basil Hopko, who by his trials and tribulations gave living testimony to his complete trust in You, hoping to receive from You "a great reward in Heaven".

Inspired by his Trust in You, we humbly implore you to hear our prayer, and through the intercession of that Man of Hope, Bishop Basil, grant us
(here make your request).

For you, O Christ our God, are Help to the helpless and Hope to the hopeless, and we render glory to You with Your Eternal Father and All-Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.

Beatified on 14 September 2003 by Pope John Paul II at Bratislava, Slovak Republic

Quote for the Day:
What an extraordinary thing it is, the efficiency of prayer!
Like a queen, it has access at all times to the royal presence,
and can get whatever it asks for.

St. Therese of Lisieux
Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

I made a new card for today - Blessed Basil Hopko. A Slovakian bishop who spent 16 years in prison for the faith. If you get a chance look at the Peace Card and read the little bit I have there.. as well.. as follow through with the links. He was imprisoned and tortured for 16 years - one of the first tortures he underwent was to walk for 122 days with stopping.

Anyway - if you are going through some hard times.. or any difficulty at all - I think Bishop Basil would be a great one to include in your list of powerful intercessors! I just discovered him this evening while looking to see who was listed as Saints and Blesseds for the day from the Patron Saints Index. If you have never gone to this site.. it is a wonderful site.. I go there at least several times a week!

Book Update: Our book - 101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer - is now up on Amazon , Barnes and Nobles, etc. If you have a chance to leave a comment on one or both of those sites I would greatly appreciate it. Comments help a lot as people looking for good books and even bookstores will check out the reviews to help them decide on good books. Special thanks to Pam who was the first courageous person to leave a comment!
