Saint Norbert, died 1134
St. Norbert was born in the area of Cleves around the year 1080. A canon of the church of Zanten, he was converted from a
worldly life and, embracing the religious state, was ordained to the priesthood in 1115.
Undertaking the apostolic life, he
accepted the duty of preaching, particularly throughout France and Germany. Gathering together some companions, he laid the
foundations of the Premonstratensian Order, for which he also founded monasteries.
Elected Archbishop of Madgeburg in 1126,
he reformed the Christian life and spread the faith to nearby pagan nations. St. Norbert died in 1134.

To read the Full Joynotes June 6
Note: If you have not been getting JoyNotes messages and you are using either AOL or Bellsouth and a few others.... they have updated their Spam Controls and JoyNotes is apparently a victim. I will leave this message up for a while.. because a lot of folks are wondering. Also for many people on these systems.. it doesn't work for me to email you back.. because my emails are blocked. So if you have another email address you might want to subscribe on that one.
Note: There are some beautiful comments on yesterday's story. Beautiful I think in their honesty, and openeness... but also sad in that their is a lot of pain and suffering as the writers shared their kinship with yesterday's story... Through Thorns the Roses Bloomed. If you get a chance you might read some of their comments and join me in prayer for them and all those who suffer living with an addicted family member or friend. Very, very difficult. My own dad was the most loving and good person this side of heaven.. except with alcohol. I am sure many of us can relate to this suffering. My first reaction when I was reading the comments this evening... was, "Wow, if there is anything that needs us to pray about - it is for those afflicted with addictions and those who are touched by it.
I truly believe in the power of shared prayer. When two are more are gathered together. I would like to start a novena today for anyone afflicted with addiction. All kinds, Alcohol, Drugs, Food, Shopping, Internet, Gambling.. etc. Hope you will join me - it doesn't have to be long or fancy. My favorite novena at present is the Emergency Novena that is described in my book. I have been taking the stories one at a time.. but going to skip ahead to that one today so we can all be on the same page. :-)
Oh funny. I just looked it up in the book and its not called the "Emergency Novena" its called the "Express Novena." Oh well.... both names work. I rather like the Emergency name myself. It consists of praying the "Memorare" nine times in a row. All at once, nine times each day. Let's get started! You don't have to pray it now of course... anytime during the day will do.
Day One
Memorare Novena Petition: For all those who are addicted and for those who suffer with them.
Pray Nine Times: Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
