Quote for the Day: If a man wants God to hear his prayer quickly, then before he prays for anything else, even his own soul, when he stands and stretches out his hands toward God, he must pray with all his heart for his enemies. Through this action God will hear everything that he asks.
Abba Zeno Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

I've got good news if you live in England. Well, shall we say Good News in "my" opinion.... anyway? my book is now available in the UK... through Redemptorist Publications. They also supply Catholic book stores so if your Catholic bookstores doesn't have it.. and you want to hint to them that maybe they "should" have it.. you can refer them to the Redemptorists.
So, I suppose you are all wondering how today went. Whether I moved through my gray fog into greener pastures or am I still floundering? Well, I'm better. I absolutely did not get anything done today that I wanted to get done - so in that respect I'm still floundering - but I'm in better cheer.
This morning after our first hour of prayer which ends at 7:00 - I went to the fourth floor to open the curtains and let the day come in. The radio studio is up there and I always pop in to make sure we are still on the air and everything is beaming out across the air waves as it should. Well, who should be on the radio but Sister Breige McKenna.
I really like Sr. Breige, so I listened for a few minutes and then of course had to push on because my mornings are timed pretty much to the minute until around 9:30 and a slow down in one place means trouble in the next. Anyway I continued my opening up - going from the fourth floor to the third floor - where I stop to pick up Pi (my bird) clean her cage, get her breakfast and take her down to my office where she spends the day.
Then I went to breakfast.. and during the munching of a bowl of cereal the thought occurred to me - that is Sister Breige was on the radio.. and it was a taped session (because I had checked it out) then that must mean that good old Ron (President and manager of Sacred Heart Radio in Seattle) must have automatically downloaded that program from the satellite and programmed it to air here in Spokane.AND if Ron did that.. than that must mean that the program was on my studio computer up there.. AND if I went up quick and saved a copy of it before it got recorded over by the next taping session - then.. we could all listen to it later! Very cool... imagine my brain working so nobly at such an early hour?
So I put a bit more speed into my cereal chewing and finished it in record time .. AND that meant I had a few minutes to zip up there and put my plan into action. It worked! I taped it.
So that was my first lucky break for the day. We listened to it at noon during our evening meal and it was great. We all like Sister Breige and of course the fact that she is a Poor Clare makes it very acceptable for spiritual listening don't you know! This was her testimony - and it was very good. Helped me to break through the fog into the light of day. Amazing how God manages to send just the right bit of spiritual boost when we need it.
Now, I had best move along. For two days in a row I had eight hours of sleep and I was hoping for a third.. but beyond that now..... but if I hurry won't be toooooooo late.
Blessings of Peace and Joy! Sister Patricia

Everything Changed
Heather J. Toutant
Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
My twenty-fifth anniversary was supposed to be a special one, but the marriage ended a week before we reached it. I prayed for my husband who did not have any religious affiliation. I prayed that he would love me and show his love as described in the Bible. I had two beautiful boys who were raised Catholic. They were and still are a gift from my Creator.
I often look at the life Mary and Joseph had, and how they overcame their suffering. I believe in prayer and became involved in prayer meetings at a very young age. I had a beautiful house and a nice job. My parents lived close by. The only thing I didn't have was the love of my husband. He looked for love outside the marriage and we became even more distant. I still prayed, but I was losing hope. I decided that I must end the marriage because he loved the other women. When I left, everything changed. My financial security, my lifestyle, my family, and my heart were broken. I had also lost my mother to a heart attack during this time. It was very difficult to go through this period of my life, but I still prayed and attended Mass and received Communion.

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage
Our Compassionate Father
One of the mysterious attributes of God is his inexhaustible mercy. God wants to forgive, heal, and redeem us more than we could want it ourselves. Such an unquenchable love baffles our minds.
God himself reveals this love when he says: "It is I, I, who wipe out, for my own sake, your offenses; your sins I remember no more." (Is 43:25)
Psalm 103 is a hymn of thanksgiving, praising God for his magnificent mercy and compassionate love.
Throughout this week, we will reflect on various aspects of God's generous and gracious love as expressed in this psalm.

On a personal note…
The Gift of Time
It just so happened that the story below was e-mailed to me by a friend just a few hours before I heard of the death yesterday of an elderly Sister in my Congregation.
Sister Leo was loved by all. When I first came to know her, she looked after the refectory in our Motherhouse, an important job but not one that would take up so much of her time that she would not have a chance to rest a little…but Sr. Leo refused to rest. She bustled about everywhere, always busy. Yet, however busy she was, she always had time for others, always a smile, a few words and a determination to do whatever she could to ensure their comfort. Nobody would ever starve if Sr. Leo was in the vicinity!
As I read the e-mail announcing Sr. Leo’s peaceful and long-awaited journey home to God, I thought of the story below…and yes, I will be going to her funeral next week if I can possibly manage.
God bless,
Sr. Janet
It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.Over the phone, his mother told him, ‘Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday.’ Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days. ‘Jack, did you hear me?’

Daily Readings

Jun 25 Wed: Ordinary Weekday
From today's readings:
"The king made a covenant before the LORD that they would follow Him and observe His ordinances, statutes and decrees with their whole hearts and souls, thus reviving the terms of the covenant which were written in this book.... Instruct me, O LORD, in the way of Your statutes, that I may exactly observe them..... Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves."
Re-learning the Lord's Law
Josiah was another good king (2 Kings 22:2) who sought to lead the nation back to God. After he had given the order to repair the Lord's Temple, a great discovery was made there: the book of the law of the Lord (probably the book of Deuteronomy)! It had been lost and forgotten during the reigns of evil kings who followed pagan gods, so it is providential that it was preserved at all, and then re-discovered at the proper moment. This happened around 640BC - remember, at that time, even the Old Testament canon was far from being established, so there was absolutely no common notion of the Bible or Sacred Scripture, or the written Word of the Lord.
Instead of being satisfied with isolated verses and bits of the Bible, I always encourage people to read whole books, which is exactly what King Josiah did, who ordered that it be "read out to them, the entire contents of the book of the covenant that had been found in the temple of the Lord." And that wasn't enough - Josiah followed up by leading the people in making a covenant to keep the law of the Lord.
Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament, and although He even superseded some of the precepts of the old Law, He was emphatic that He did not come to abolish the law and the prophets (Matthew 5:17). The Ten Commandments, included in the Book of Deuteronomy (chapter five), were clearly re-affirmed in Christ's teaching.
You and I can take the time today to re-discover the Old Testament and imitate Josiah's example as we read and study whole books, committing ourselves to learning and living the Lord's law as we pray in the psalm, "Teach me the way of Your decrees, O Lord!"
