Quote for the Day:
Prayer is any converse between the soul and God.
Hence it is that state in which the soul looks wordlessly on God,
solely occupied with contemplating him,
telling him with looks that it loves him,
while uttering no words, even in thought.

Venerable Charles De Foucauld
Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

I had energy today.. I really did... somewhere though it leaked out and now there is just this blob sitting here at the computer - trying to find enough effort to type something. I'm not even going to try and make it sound reasonable or intelligent - no hope for that. Just get some words here on the screen - and move on.

It's still pretty early and we've already had supper.. hmmm... wonder if there is a chance we could have evening prayer outside? That would be nice. Maybe I will go ask.. I think I would do better sitting outside with a little movement of breeze and fresh air.

Went and asked.. .. the verdict isn't in yet.. as the others have a few things to do .. so will see.. how light it is when all is done. Who knows maybe I will even be done...now that it stays lighter so much longer .. and the rains seem to be over and gone for a bit.

Blessings of Peace and All Good,

Sister Patricia and all the Sisters

More things

ALFRED LORD TENNYSON

Headed For Trouble
Jackie M. Farrell
Ft. Washington, Maryland

The story of my life of prayer began a long time ago when I was a child. I can still remember my father kneeling at his bedside in prayer and my mother teaching me through her words and actions that God always hears us when we pray. My parents were quiet and thoughtful people who treated my brother, sister, and me with great love and respect. They went about their conscientious lives with a beautiful blend of humor, faith, and love.

Despite my solid Catholic upbringing, after my divorce I fell away from the Church, God, and prayer. I rejected God in many ways and proceeded down a path without Him where I thought I would find adventure, excitement, and true happiness. I can't believe how stupid I was in not realizing that I was headed for trouble. Not only did I put my own life in jeopardy, but I did the same to my innocent one-year-old daughter.

Joyous Praise

Psalm 9:2-3
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with all my heart:
I will declare all your wondrous deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, Most High.

Today set aside some time for quiet and solitude to recall the wondrous deeds of the Lord in your life. As we recall the outpouring of his gifts and blessings, our minds stagger in wonder while our hearts want to burst forth in joyous gratitude.

The psalmist's words are a fitting expression of gratitude and praise. Let our prayer of praise rise from the very depth of our being as we ring out our song of praise.

Jesus knows that this time is essential; hence he invites us: "Come by yourselves to an out-of-the-way place and rest a little. (Mk 6:31)

Sweet Simplicity

I don’t get it, but I can appreciate it, nevertheless.

Two boys are involved in a conflict that comes to death blows and must be broken up by me. And yet not two minutes later …

“You wanna play ball or something?”

“Okay.”

“Let’s go.”

On a personal note…

The Little Madonna

madonnina.jpg She is young and beautiful, wrapped in a blue cloak, her head covered in a gold-coloured, patterned, scarf. As she looks upwards, a small baby in her arms sleeps peacefully, its little arm resting so trustingly and naturally on her breast. The baby’s pose is so realistic, that there is no way in which the artist, Ferruzzi, could not have painted his exquisite portrait of ‘The Little Madonna of the Wayside’ from life.

Yet how many millions of people, including myself, have seen and treasured this picture, have seen it as a representation of Our Lady, not knowing that Ferruzzi himself had merely painted an 11 year-old girl by the name of Angelina Bovo as she tried to keep her little baby brother Giovanni warm?

Daily Readings
Jun 17 Tue: Ordinary Weekday

From today's readings: “Because you have given yourself up to doing evil in the LORD’s sight, I am bringing evil upon you... Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.... You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father....”

Proof of Christ’s Divinity

The manner of His Passion, Death, and Resurrection, and His miracles and fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy certainly attest to the divinity of Christ, but I think the most accessible proof that Jesus is indeed God is found right in His teachings.

Much of what Jesus taught was already taught before (even if not quite as clearly), either in the Old Testament, or even by pagan sages of ancient times. For such teachings, Jesus is generally regarded, even by atheists, as a very wise man.

But some elements of Christ’s doctrine clearly transcend all human wisdom and Old Testament revelation. Consider, for example, His command, “Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.” It’s hard to conceive of any other expectation so contrary to our fallen human nature! And Jesus doesn’t even try to make the demand more appealing with a promise of a great reward - the only reason He offers is so that we can be children of our Father in Heaven.

If Jesus were just a merely human wise man, like the sages of other ages, He never would have dared to voice such a counter-intuitive command. But, because of His divinity, He not only called for love of enemies, He showed the world, with His redemptive death, what He meant. And that’s why we can and must believe Him and follow Him!
