Quote for the Day:
The Lord of the universe is more splendid
than the sun and the stars. He will never leave me!

St. Agnes
Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

Note: If you have not been getting JoyNotes messages and you are using either AOL or Bellsouth and a few others.... they have updated their Spam Controls and JoyNotes is apparently a victim. I will leave this message up for a while.. because a lot of folks are wondering. Also for many people on these systems.. it doesn't work for me to email you back.. because my emails are blocked. So if you have another email address you might want to subscribe on that one.

Note: There are some beautiful comments on yesterday's story. Beautiful I think in their honesty, and openeness... but also sad in that their is a lot of pain and suffering as the writers shared their kinship with yesterday's story... Through Thorns the Roses Bloomed. If you get a chance you might read some of their comments and join me in prayer for them and all those who suffer living with an addicted family member or friend. Very, very difficult. My own dad was the most loving and good person this side of heaven.. except with alcohol. I am sure many of us can relate to this suffering. My first reaction when I was reading the comments this evening... was, "Wow, if there is anything that needs us to pray about - it is for those afflicted with addictions and those who are touched by it.

I truly believe in the power of shared prayer. When two are more are gathered together. I would like to start a novena today for anyone afflicted with addiction. All kinds, Alcohol, Drugs, Food, Shopping, Internet, Gambling.. etc. Hope you will join me - it doesn't have to be long or fancy. My favorite novena at present is the Emergency Novena that is described in my book. I have been taking the stories one at a time.. but going to skip ahead to that one today so we can all be on the same page. :-)

Oh funny. I just looked it up in the book and its not called the "Emergency Novena" its called the "Express Novena." Oh well.... both names work. I rather like the Emergency name myself. It consists of praying the "Memorare" nine times in a row. All at once, nine times each day. Let's get started! You don't have to pray it now of course... anytime during the day will do.

Day One

Memorare Novena
Petition:
For all those who are addicted and for those who suffer with them.

Pray Nine Times:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help,
or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come,
before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Blessings of Peace and All Good,

ALFRED LORD TENNYSON

Keep Your Eyes on Me
Diane Parkhurst
Boardman, Ohio

In 1995, I was fifteen weeks pregnant with my third child when I realized that something seemed different about this pregnancy. I visited my doctor and told him that something just wasn't right, but when he was able to find the baby's heartbeat, he assured me that everything was okay.

The doctor had us schedule a routine ultrasound for a different day, and when we arrived for our appointment, the technician was having trouble with the machine. She called the doctor in and he suggested that we go to another facility where a better machine was available. We went there and had a very short ultrasound. Then we were asked to go back to the doctor's office where we were informed that our unborn baby was not alive. We were crushed as we made arrangements for my labor to be induced the next day.

After our stillborn daughter was delivered, I had some post delivery complications that ended up with me in the operating room for a dilation and curettage procedure. I refused to stay in the hospital and was released at around one o'clock in the morning.

Gentle and Humble

Psalm 18:28-29
For lowly people you save
but haughty eyes you bring low;
You indeed, O Lord, give light to my lamp;
O my God, you brighten the darkness about me.

Jesus always had high praise for the lowly. Scripture calls them the anawin. They are the humble, gentle, unsophisticated, happy people who are open and eager to hear the word of God.

The lowly come very close in their relationship with the Lord, who then becomes a light in the darkness for them. We can become lowly when we strive to learn from Jesus who was gentle and humble of heart. The Lord will then brighten the dark moments for us on our way to heaven.

Jesus singled out the lowly as being especially blessed: "Blest are the lowly, they shall inherit the land." (Mt 5:5)

Live Blogging Birthday

So far, so good. The birthday princess awoke to a bejeweled tiara resting on a pillow at the end of her bed. After placing it on her head, she wasted no time indulging her birthday privileges of unlimited computer game time. In her nightgown. Oh, the decadence!

I am now prepared (I think) to tackle the colossal task of decorating a birthday cake to meet her complicated expectations. At least her birthday dinner won’t be too hard to pull off.

“Could we maybe have McDonald’s?” she asked me yesterday. Done.

Daily Readings
Jun 6 Fri: Ordinary Weekday/ Norbert, bp, rf

From today's readings: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness.... O Lord, great peace have they who love Your law... David himself calls Him ‘Lord’....”

What Scripture is good for....

2 Timothy 3:16-17 is one of the best known comments in Scripture about Scripture: “All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

As strong as this statement is in support of Scripture, it is not to be confused with the protestant notion of “Sola Scriptura,” the belief that “Scripture Alone” is sufficient and the Church’s Magisterium and all else is superfluous when it comes to establishing the essential dogmas of Christian belief. Such a belief is ultimately self-contradictory, because it can be found nowhere in Scripture; it does not address the origin of Scripture (since the Bible’s table of contents is not part of inspired Scripture, it was the Church that decided which books were included in the Bible); and even if one were to mistakenly believe that “Sola Scriptura” was somehow established by biblical texts, that still would be a logical fallacy (begging the question).

The rejection of “Sola Scriptura” does not imply, however, that the Catholic Church undervalues Scripture. Paul’s praise of Scripture is in no way compromised in the Catholic position - rather, it is realized! For the inspired Scripture itself gives witness to the apostolic foundation of the Church and the teaching authority, which Paul commends to Timothy:

“You have followed my teaching, way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, and sufferings....”
