Saint Benedict

Sr. Constantina Kokonyi , OSB

St Scholastica Monastery

Prayer

God our Father,
you made St. Benedict
an outstanding guide
to teach men
how to live
in your service.

Grant that by
preferring your love
to everything else,
we may walk
in the way
of your commandments.

Amen.

Quote for the Day:
Speak now, my heart, and say to God,
?I seek your face; your face, Lord, I seek.?

St. Anselm
Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

Well, the visit to the doctor went very well. Considering. On the way down the wheelchair van was a newer one where the person who is in the wheel chair sits up front across from the driver. Mom really liked that... seemed just like going for a drive. The way back.. she was more like baggage in the back of the van but she did okay. Certainly a lot bumpier the further back in the van you sit... so I imagine considering the shape of most of our Spokane streets - it wasn't the most comfortable, enjoyable experience. But nevertheless, she didn't complain and though it took three hours for this whole doctor visit - she managed it quite well.

Next week she gets her cast! Yeah. One with a hinge in it - hadn't heard of those before. so that will be nother experience. Hopefully she will be able to go back to her adult home in a couple of weeks.

Jeremiah
Jeremiah taking a summer snooze in the sun.

Haven't given you a Jeremiah (de cat) update lately - so here's the latest. As I've explained before - every evening I take my bird, Pi up to bed. He has one of those tall cages with wheels on it that roll along and so I wheel him into the elevator and up we go. This used to be quite a simple trip except that now Jeremiah feels that he might as well go up with as too. So soon as Jeremiah hears us rolling along, he pops up from whatever place he has been lounging in and heads for the elevator. He gets on, Pi and myself get on and up we go. Pi wants me to scratch his head. So I do that a bit.. but have to watch that Jeremiah doesn't get out when the door opens.. so as we near the third floor I have to stop scratching Pi's head and pick him up.

Pi shouts, "Unfair, this is my trip! Put the stupid cat down and pay attention to me!"

Well, of course he doesn't say it in perfect English... but I can tell by his glare at the cat and his sqwak.. that those are his thoughts. So I have the cat in my arms and I stuff him into the bathroom and close the door until I take care of Pi. Only this evening I noticed the window in the bathroom still had the blinds drawn and I thought I should at least stop long enough to open the blinds... but unfortunately (being of unsound mind) I forgot the bathroom door was still open and as I struggle with the blinds.. cat heads off for places unknown. Sigh. I decide to forget cat for the moment and take care of bird. Which I do. Glares and all. Get bird happily in his night time spot and go into standard, "Cat Search Patrol."

All the sister's bedroom doors are open - but a quick glance doesn't show a sign of cat. A quick check of the novitate - no cat... so of course... he always, always goes up to the fourth floor so why should this time be any different? At least I've covered the bases on the third floor and head up to the fourth. At the top of the floor - close that door to quarantine the search to one area. Finally find a fat cat in the far guest bedroom trying to crawl under the bed. Decide I'm not crawling under bed after cat.. and opt to close door and come back later for cat. Which I do. Works like a charm, ten minutes later . . . with no thrill of chase.. fat cat decides to sit on the window sill and observe the view for awhile. I walk into room - pick up cat who is very pleased with himself for his daring adventure and take the furry purr ball back downstairs.

That's the Jeremiah update. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures sure to follow.

Blessings of Peace and Joy!
Sister Patricia
