Novena For Christian Unity
|
Our Father in Heaven, we pray for the unity
of all humankind in one flock,
and under one shepherd, and especially:
January 24:
For the Jewish People.
May they all be one
As you, Father,
in me and I in you.
O God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, grant us the grace
to take to heart the scandal of our divisions. Deliver us
from all hatred and prejudice, and from all that hinders unity.
As there is but one Body and one Spirit,
one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism,
one God and Father of all,
so may we also be of one heart
and one soul,
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Save us, O Lord, our God,
and gather us from among
the nations.
that we may give thanks
to your holy name,
and may glory in
praising you.
Let us pray: Be mindful of your Church, O Lord.
Deliver her from all evil,
and perfect her in your love.
As the grain is scattered
on the hillside
and is gathered up to become
one bread,
so let all your children
be gathered up from the ends
of the earth
into your kingdom.
For yours is the power
and the glory,
through Christ Jesus forever.
Amen.

Quote for the Day: ?The man who gives little with a smile gives more than the man who gives much with a frown.? Jewish Proverb

Just in case anyone was wondering whether it's winter or not.
Well, this is a good day. Almost evening and Shelley hasn't eaten any gloves. I was cooking in the kitchen (they really shouldn't let me do that) and I dropped a freshly toasted roll from the oven right smack between her paws. (she just happened to be laying there) and up she pops in an instant to go after it.. but I managed to grab it before she got her teeth firmly set on it. Whew! (guess, you can figure out who had that roll for supper! - No it wasn't Shelley!) Sister Rita Louise did give her a tiny dog snack though. She, (the dog not Sr. Rita Louise) is actually trained to lay right there while we get supper and then if she is good she gets a little treat. We figured dropping a roll between her paws was temptation greater than could be expected.. so it didn't count that she popped up for that one!
Thursday is the Feast of Saint Francis de Sales. I love this saint.. not only because he is the patron saint of writers and such... but because he had a happy spirit. I like happy saints. I suppose they all were in some way or other but some saints, geesh. sounds like all they did was fast and see what miserable mess they could get into. Nope, not me. Sorry. I may get a very low, place just inside the heavenly gates.. but I'm just not into that stuff. I've already explained very carefully to God that I do not want to be martyred. It just does not sound like any kind of fun. And if that's his plan for me, that's fine but I don't want to know about it ahead of time and if given the choice... don't expect me to take the noble, high road.. because its really doubtful that I will go there.
This may actually be the result of living in a home with too many older brothers - who believed in torture (I hope they are not reading this) and I learned to say "UNCLE" really, really fast. No problem.
I actually was more into fasting and stuff before I entered the monastery. Or shall we say, I at least attempted it more. I tend to have a touch of hypoglycemia and if I go too long without eating... uh... you really don't want to be sitting next to me. I am not the most pleasantest of companions at that point.
Anyway, I like the scripture quote that says, "Each day has enough trouble of its own." That is really true, we really don't need to go looking for ways to suffer... just accept the suffering that daily comes. Sometimes in the form of glove eating dogs or other exciting variations.
Blessings of Peace and Good, Sister Patricia
