Novena For Christian Unity
Our Father in Heaven, we pray for the unity
of all humankind in one flock,
and under one shepherd, and especially:

January 20:
For the Anglicans.

May they all be one
As you, Father,
in me and I in you.

O God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, grant us the grace
to take to heart the scandal of our divisions. Deliver us
from all hatred and prejudice, and from all that hinders unity.
As there is but one Body and one Spirit,
one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism,
one God and Father of all,
so may we also be of one heart
and one soul,
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Save us, O Lord, our God,
and gather us from among
the nations.
that we may give thanks
to your holy name,
and may glory in
praising you.

Let us pray: Be mindful of your Church, O Lord.
Deliver her from all evil,
and perfect her in your love.
As the grain is scattered
on the hillside
and is gathered up to become
one bread,
so let all your children
be gathered up from the ends
of the earth
into your kingdom.

For yours is the power
and the glory,
through Christ Jesus forever.
Amen.

Quote for the Day:
Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven.
Pope St. Pius X

Today was my mom's 90th birthday. We celebrated it quietly in the monastery with a cake and a few presents. I think she had a very nice day.

While we waited for dinner to be ready she read from a big book of Charlie Brown's Golden Anniversary cartoons. This was a book she got for me a long time ago, and almost every time she comes to the monastery I get it out and she reads some of it. I don't think she remembers the cartoons from one time to another.... but then I often don't myself. Good cartoons are fun to read over and over I think.

Dinner is over and its time for Birthday Cake! She had chocolate cake and chocolate ice-cream. She actually only took two bites of the ice cream and then graciously offered it to Sister Jane. The cake ... well.... she didn't really want any of that either. She was pleased to have it! She just didn't feel like eating it! I think I've been that way before. The only thing until one is 90 one doesn't often just say it!

Anyway she was getting tired and was looking forward to going back home and taking a nap I think. So we fixed her cake for the road and took her home.

What was so very, very funny was that when I was saying good-bye to mom and giving her a big hug. She said to me, "Oh honey, I don't know what I would do without you!" And I said,, "Well, Mom, I don't know what I would do without you." And then she said, "Well, then come back soon so I don't figure out what I will do without you!"

I thought that was so funny. My mom is always funny.

Sister Colleen said, "It's too bad she doesn't blog, it would be a great hit!" Because she is deaf, and because she has dementia one just doesn't know what she will say, or how loud she will say it. But I can guarantee it will be quite honest and forthright!

Blessings of much Peace and Joy!
Sister Patricia
