Quote for the Day:
Saint Anthony told his monks:
When, therefore, they demons come by night to you
and wish to tell the future, or say 'We are the angels,'
give no heed, for they lie....
But if they shamelessly stand their ground,
capering and change their forms of appearance,
fear them not, nor shrink,
nor heed them as though they were good spirits.
For the presence either of the good or evil
by the help of God can easily be distinguished.
The vision of the holy ones is not fraught with distraction:
'For they will not strive, nor cry,
nor shall anyone hear their voice'
(Matthew 12:19; Isaiah 42:2).
But it comes quietly and gently
that an immediate joy, gladness,
and courage arise in the soul.
For the Lord who is our joy
is with them, and the power of God the Father.
Saint Anthony, Abbot

Sr Jane made a snow cat. Shelley is not impressed

Okay, so snow sculpture is not something we really excell at - but last Sunday afternoon (when there was lots of fresh snow) Sr. Rita Louise (not pictured) and Sr. Jane had lots of fun making a little group of snow folks. There was your typical snow man (not pictured)... this snow cat and then something else.. I think it may have been an attempt at a snow dog but by the time I took this picture a few days later.. any resemblance to a dog was long melted away. Any resemblance to anything had melted away... which maybe is a good thing. Not sure - both Sr. Jane and Sr. Rita Louise are pretty good artists.. .but I don't think snow is quite their medium. But they were just into fun not art anyway.. and they did accomplish that!

Blessings of Peace and Joy,

Meditation Three:

Blaming Others

Well, I am going to tell you what. That third door is just going to stay shut. I'm not having anything to do with it. Forget it. This stuff is getting way to heavy for me. I can handle a little but the rest of this stuff is too much.

You know what it says on the third door? "Blaming Others."

Yeah well, I may do a little of that, but no more than anyone else and I'm not going to open that door and be pushed around like some ping pong ball in a hurricane. Enough of that noise.

Gosh, it sure is dark in here. How did I get into this long hallway anyway and how in the heck do I get out?

Looks to me like there must be at least ten or fifteen doors left to investigate. If I was going to be so foolish as to do that . . . .

Blaming Others? What has that got to do with anything? Who comes up with this stuff?

Boy, if you want to know about people who blame others then you should just take a look at the politicians. Or anyone in government! Look at the newspapers. Story after story – always about how somebody did somebody else in. Just enough to make you give up living.

Okay, I'm just going to take a sneak peek in that door. Because you know what? I can guarantee you I'm not as bad as about everyone else I know. In fact, if anything I always seem to be taking the blame for everyone else. That's gets old too, I'll tell ya.

Whoa….. this door opens like greased lightening! Must be well used.

Good Grief! It's just stuffed! Floor to ceiling with junk! You can't even get into the room! Obviously there's nothing that's going to help me here. Looks like people just threw all their trash in here and closed the door.

Let somebody else deal with it they probably said.

Yeah, right. Well, it's not going to be me, that's for sure. It's not my junk. Whoever messed this room up is going to have to take care of it. It's sure not my problem.

Everything God Created is Good

Love Fashions and Shares

Genesis relates the story of creation as an historical narrrative, while Psalm 104 tells the story in beautiful poetic imagery. Creation is an expression of God's love.

His creation is ongoing. It is a sharing of himself. The love of husband and wife expressed in procreation is a reflection of God's creative love. With the psalmist, let us praise the power and wisdom of our creating Father.

Daily Readings
Jan 17 Thu: Anthony, ab M

From today's readings: “The elders of Israel said, ‘Why has the LORD permitted us to be defeated today by the Philistines?’ Redeem us, Lord, because of Your mercy.... Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out His hand, touched the leper.....”

God's Side

The Old Testament is full of incredible battle accounts which relate great victories of God's people against humanly impossible odds. Less memorable, but also chronicled in the Bible, are details of ignoble defeats of the Israelites.

So, was God on their side, or not? If God was on their side, that certainly explains the miraculous victories. But then, if the almighty God was on their side, how could they ever lose, as, for instance, the time of the disastrous battle against the Philistines recorded in the first reading?

The question the Israelites should have asked (and that we should ask today) is not whether or not God is on our side, but whether or not we are on His side! God cannot be expected to endorse with His omnipotence every action of His people, especially when His people's actions are contrary to His will.

Compare the pathetic defeat recounted here in chapter 4, with the picture in chapter 7 of the First Book of Samuel, when the Israelites returned to God. When we align ourselves squarely with God and His will, then indeed He will give success to the work of our hands, and we will have the thrill of triumphantly surfing the waves of His invincibility!
