Quote for the Day:
Who except God can give you peace? Has the world ever been able to satisfy the heart?
St. Gerard Majella

Sunday is the Baptism of the Lord. The official end of Christmas. Every year we always wonder and have this discussion. Do we take everything Christmas out the chapel before the Baptism or immediately afterwards? After all when the Baptism happens Jesus is far removed from the birth at Bethlehem. The Magi have come and gone and Jesus is now at the onset of his Mission of Redemption.

Yet the Ordo (Guide for the Liturgy of the Roman Calendar) states that the Hymns should be from the Christmas season. Why should we sing a Christmas Hymn if Jesus is all grown up and ready to get on with his mission? So its always one of those upsy downsy type of feasts for me. Is it really still Christmas? What we usually do is take the crib out and leave the flowers and other Christmas things up.... until after the Mass.

It's not really that difficult. I'm sure there are more difficult decisions to work out... but its sort of one of those traditions now.. that we should at least discuss it. Even when we know the answers. Ever do things like that?

Sister Rita Louise and Shelley went out for snow play today. Being a golden retreiver Shelley has to have something in her mouth... this is one of her favorites and its a bright flouroscent green so that we can find it even in the snow!

Blessings of Peace and Joy,

Stories of the Rosary

Healed Through a Rosary Novena

For seventeen years I suffered from a type of migraine headache. It seemed that every year the pain would last longer and intensify. I saw many doctors who tried many techniques but to no avail. Medicine did not help.

A friend told me to ask our Blessed Mother for relief during times of pain. One night I woke up with a severe headache. Since I could not sleep, I went downstairs into the living room sat on the couch, took out my rosary and asked our Blessed Mother to please help me.

When the rosary was done, the headache was gone. I went back to bed and while I was lying there, I smelled the scent of roses. This was when I knew Mary came through for me that night.

However, I still continued to have headaches at least once each month. The headaches traveled from one side of my head then the other and lasted from two to three days.

Let Us Praise the Lord

Psalm 111:10 Genuine Wisdom

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
prudent are all who live by it.
His praise endures forever.

We remind ourselves that the "fear of the Lord" means a reverence for God. Fear is the Hebrew form for our word, religion—our relationship with our heavenly Father. We live this relationship when we say a brief "Thank you, Lord," or admire the beauty of nature, or enjoy the love of a dear one.

A very powerful means of expressing this relationship is to praise God always. Jesus teaches that the beginning of wisdom is love, especially the love of our enemies.

He says: "This will prove that you are sons of your heavenly Father, for his sun rises on the bad and the good, he rains on the just and the unjust. (Mt 5:45)

Daily Readings
Jan 11 Fri: Christmas Weekday

From today's readings: “God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.... Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion.... It happened that there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where Jesus was; and when he saw Jesus, he fell prostrate, pleaded with Him....”

Eternal life and love

As St. John begins to bring this letter of love to a close (and as we likewise approach the formal close of the Christmas liturgical season), he states his purpose in writing:

“I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the Name of the Son of God!”

What does it mean to you to have eternal life? Mostly, we only think of that concept in terms of heavenly bliss, but St. John suggests that this is not just something promised for the future (“God WILL give us eternal life...”) but something that has already been presented (“God GAVE us eternal life...”).

To be sure, this eternal life is not yet possessed in its fulness by those of us still running the course of our earthly life. But in spite of the differences, John's insight is that there is a profound continuity between life now in Christ and life in Heaven with Christ, for "whoever possesses the Son has life...."
