Quote for the Day:
Do not be troubled if you do not immediately receive from God
what you ask him; for he desires to do something even greater
for you, while you cling to him in prayer.
Evagrius Ponticus

Quote from the book, "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

Today is the feast of Saint Louis de Montfort. Just to show how unaware I am of this saint - I didn't realize that this was where Pope John Paul II got his "Totus Tuus" from. I knew it was on his papal shield but didn't realize it originated from his great devotion to this saint. Every day you learn something that half of the world already knew.

I've finally come up with a launching date for the Presales. It will be May 1st - the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker. So stay tuned.

Meanwhile I have about 670 more emails to answer for the Publicity Squad! Yeah! We have a total of 905 volunteers! Thank you so much!

I have changed my mind about not sending outside of the country. It will be expensive but I have received a number of requests from people who would like to be a part of the promotion (and get a free book) but not in the USA. So I have decided I will put it in the hands of St. Joseph to provide for the extra mailing costs. The Spirit blows where it will and if its blowing fervently outside of the old USA who am I to argue? So if you would like to join with us - from wherever you are... send me an email with your complete mailing address. 1srpat@calledbyjoy.com

Please make sure your mailing address is complete. Its very expensive to have them returned - because an address was missing something. Thank you.

Getting late - so best get moving.

Love and Prayers,
Sr. Patricia

Mysterious Designs

Psalm 148:5-6

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created.
he established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.

We can readily recognize the wisdom and the power of God, our Creator, in the order and design we find in the world. We discover his divine plan in the rhythm of the seasons, in the night which follows days, in the rain which nourishes the earth, and in the sun which sustains life and produces a rich harvest.

To each phase of his creation he gave "a duty which shall not pass away."

St. Paul has a specific mission: "To me, the least of all believers, was given the grace to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ and to enlighten all men on the mysterious designs which for ages was hidden in God, the Creator of all." (Eph 3:8-9)

Energy Bar (reader share)

This healthy energy bar recipe comes from a reader, Diane, who found it in a cancer prevention cookbook. Looks interesting. Diabetics beware, lots of honey. But lots of whole grain and seeds and nuts too. Try it! And thanks for sharing Diane.

See my note regarding breakfast bars tomorrow.

I found this recipe for an energetic healthy bar, in the book by R Béliveau Ph.D.and D Gingras Ph.D. The book is about eating foods which help prevent cancer. The title is”Cuisiner avec les aliments contre le cancer” Following is the recipe by chef Éric Harvey, teacher at the school ” École hôtèlerie de la Capitale Québec.”

Tender bars-Barres tendres(makes 12 bars) Time to prepare:15 minutes Difficulty: medium

2 1/2 C rolled oats
1 C sesame seeds
1/3 C poppy seeds
1/3 C flax seeds
1/3 C raisins
3/4 C pecans
1/2 tsp. fresh grated ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 3/4 C honey

1.In a large bowl mix all ingredients except for the honey.
2.In a small pan, warm the honey to 243oF using a candy thermometer to check temperature.
3.Pour the hot honey onto the dry ingredients and mix well.
4.Pour into a rectangular buttered(greased) dish.
5. Place in the refrigerator to cool, before cutting into 12 equal sized bars.

Bon appétit, Diane
(I hope you like it…)

Diabetics-use caution. I did some quick calculations and these bars are about 60 grams of carbohydrate per serving. This would be the total allowed on a typical 1800 calorie diet for carbohydrates for one meal. You would not want to combine this with milk or fruit or other grain product. But the fiber would be considerable.

Here’s a great website for doing your own calorie/carbohydrate calculations: www.thecaloriecounter.com

Readers, please share other ‘bar’ ideas. These can be so much healthier than the packaged versions.

Best Ever

I took some video of Daniel in the tub last night. I couldn’t help it. He is just so animated in there — splashing, laughing, screeching, and playing. He loves his bath.

His brothers, however, were righteously protective of his dignity.

“How could you do that to him?” they wanted to know.

Many mothers do not know this, but apparently, for the sake of decency, there should be no naked baby videos. Not even if a certain little someone has a certain little birthmark on a certain little part of his body that is normally covered up by his diaper. Not even if the certain little birthmark is unbelievably cute. That was none of my business, Daniel’s brothers told me. And it certainly wasn’t going to be the business of future generations or girlfriends who might see this video.

So I stopped taping. But Danny played on. What struck me about his playing was that even if he takes a bath every single night before bed, even if it’s always the same tub, the same bubbles, and the same toys, he never gets bored or complains. To him, it’s always new. Every bath is the best ever bath. The best ever. And he plays his little heart out in there.

Please God, teach me to do the same.

Daily Readings
Apr 28 Mon: Easter Weekday/ Peter Chanel, p, r, ms, mt/ Louis Mary de Montfort, p

From today's readings: “...the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what Paul was saying.... The Lord takes delight in His people.... I have told you this so that you may not be scandalized.”

Remembering What He Told Us

All four of the gospels mention that the disciples often enough did not completely understand the words of Jesus at the time they were spoken. However, even when they didn’t understand completely, the disciples still listened attentively to the Lord, and so after His Resurrection and the pentecostal inspiration from the Holy Spirit, they were able to prayerfully recall and come to understand fully the teachings of Jesus.

For our part, it is important that we too listen attentively and strive to comprehend the sacred words of scripture. Yet, even after carefully listening throughout the Liturgy of the Word and re-reading the lectionary verses, it can happen that certain passages will remain unclear to us for the moment. Often, more in-depth scripture study will be enlightening, but most importantly, if we humbly pray that the Lord will help us understand and remember His words, He certainly will give us that blessing in the time and circumstances He deems best, for His words of life are meant to guide us all our life!
