Quote for the Day: The Lord of the universe is more splendid than the sun and the stars. He will never leave me! From "St Agnes"
|
Well I got bogged down this afternoon... I was trying to keep my nose to the grindstone but things started getting gloomier and gloomier. Woe upon woe. Finally finished the project I was working on and decided I needed a walk. So I did. Grabbed my coat, asked Shelley if she wanted to go out and of course she did so out we went.
Wasn't too warm, a little wind so I put on my heavy coat. The sun was shining! Felt so good to be out. I walked the grounds.. four times one way, turned around four times the other. That makes a mile. While I walked I prayed. First the Emergency Novena which is my latest devotion and then just prayed. Almost immediately my gloom lifted. Guess that showed where that was coming from!
My biggest message I got (which I have gotten about a million times before but I'm a slow learner) was, "Relax, you are not running the universe. I have things in control. Take a load off!" Once that had sunk in a bit - I enjoyed the sun, the spring violets starting to peek up from the grass, the blue sky, the racing clouds, everything. It is so nice NOT to be in charge of the Universe. I don't know why I keep thinking it would be cool.
Well of course I don't really, consciously want to be in charge of the Universe.. but I do start fretting over every little thing and big thing and its all under the same agenda I think.
One of the images that came to my mind as I walked was that of a child who is playing. In their play they are so intent whatever they are doing... completely, totally... and yet? How easily they can switch to something else if something else pops in front of them. They enjoy the moment and if the moment changes - Boom... then they are solidly in the next thing. The "Oh my gosh, I should be doing something else, Factor" doesn't seem to be as entrenched in kids. Gotta do that more often.
Sort of like this silly dog I was out with. I decided to pick up this little twig because I felt like it would be nice to have something in my hand to sort of swish back and forth as I walked. So of course the silly dog HAD to have my little twig. So what the heck.. go ahead and give the twig to the silly dog. Dog took twig very happily... took about three steps with it and decided it wasn't such a great twig after all and dropped it.
Now wouldn't it be nice if we could drop things as easily if we see they are not working out? Like buying something you think will be really neat... and then find out it wasn't so hot after all but you keep it around for the next ten years out of guilt for getting it. Geesh!
Oh, before I forget. Thank you for the great ideas some of you have shared. They are wonderful. I will keep adding them to the list. I got a call from my friend Sister Janet in London and she said she already found the list helpful for her... maybe others will too and we can all benefit from this little brainstorming session!
God bless you very much! Sister Patricia

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage
No Other
Psalm 96:4-5
For great is the Lord and highly to be praised;
awesome is he, beyond all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are things of nought,
but the Lord made the heavens.
In our technological age we can easily begin to pay homage to the false gods of our guasi-miraculous accomplishments devised by the minds of men and women. Our computerized society is proud of its achievements—so colossal that some people begin to doubt the necessity of a supreme being.
On the other hand, a simple reflection of the vastness and beauty of creation will quickly bring us back to the reality and the necessity of a Creator who fashioned heaven and earth.
The angel in John's vision advises us: "Honor God and give him glory, for his time has come to sit in judgment. Worship the Creator of theaven and earth, the Creator of the sea and the springs." (Rev 14:7)

On a personal note…
A new life
When I met the man below, he made such a deep impression that I wrote the article below, which was published in Britain’s Catholic Times last week. He made such a deep impression on me that I wanted to share it with those of you who read my blog. Since I had the privilege of being in such close proximity to this young man, whenever anything has not gone as I would like, I remember him and find the courage to keep on going. May he also give you hope and courage.
To all intents and purposes, he should not have lived, the young man who stood beside me on the London Underground.

Daily Readings

Apr 17 Thu: Easter Weekday
From today's readings:
“From David’s descendants God, according to His promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus.... For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.... Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives the One who sent Me.”
The Lord’s Farewell Discourse
The Lord’s words at the Last Supper make up the longest section of the Gospel of St. John - chapters 13, 14, 15, 16, and chapter 17 (the final prayer). The Apostles understood that Jesus was giving them His farewell discourse, but of course, there was much that they did not understand about what He had spoken to them until after His Resurrection.
That’s why the Church now reviews anew Christ’s parting words - starting today, the daily Gospel reading will follow that farewell discourse, thus directing you and me to meditate afresh with Easter faith on the Lord’s last will and testament, for “if you understand this, blessed are you if you do it!”
Although Jesus explicitly states that He is indeed leaving, He paradoxically also insists that He will nonetheless continue to stay with His Church, for, as He explains to the Apostles, “...whoever receives the one I send receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives the One who sent Me.” God’s abiding presence is, in fact, the central theme of the Last Supper!
