Quote for the Day:
The greatest privilege God gives to you is the freedom
to approach Him at any time. You are not only authorized
to speak to Him: you are invited.
You are not only permitted;
you are expected.
God waits for you to communicate with Him.
You have instant, direct access to God.
God loves mankind so much,
and in a very special sense His children,
that he has made Himself available to you at all times.

From "101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer"

Well, I found out part of the cause of my doldrums. I was dehydrated. That will do it. I hadn't even noticed...but once I did I've been gugling down the water. Glug, glug, glug.

Tomorrow I have to take my mom to another doctor appointment. Poor mom, poor me. I made a special trip this afternoon with my friend Barb to try and find the place - totally missed it because I had misplaced the address and map. (was posted safely on my bulletin board so I wouldn't miss it! Ha ha ha.). So lets hope we get there in one piece, with my head on straight. Sigh.

The book went to the printer! Whoopee! More parts to go... like the 8 page color insert of the prayer places and the cover needs to be done.. but we is on our way! I hope I don't have a stroke before it all happens. Or maybe they will come with their little white coats and find me a nice padded place to stay for a while.

I was late getting grapes to Pi this evening. I knew I was late and I was working on it.. but anyway I turned around in the kitchen and there was this little green thing plowing across the floor wondering when in the heck I was going to get them! She'd obviously plodded right past the dog because Shelley was sort of anxiously following her. Pi has so much attitude that it doesn't matter that Shelley is a hundred times bigger than she is - move out of my way I'm coming through!

Blessings of Peace,
Sister Patricia

FOREWORD (Part Two)

By Jerry Usher

It?s often said that prayer is a two-way conversation. Yet, one of the most common mistakes we make?and I?ve been as guilty as anyone?is forgetting to give God His time to speak. That?s understandable, since we can?t see Him and, barring a special grace from on high, we can?t audibly hear His voice. But there?s so much He wants to say to us. And he longs to have us place our prayers before Him and answer them in a way that?s in our best interests and according to His perfect timing.

A book of this nature is a wonderful testimony to the efficacy of prayer, an inspiring collection of personal accounts of how God has not only heard people?s prayers, but answered them in an amazing variety of ways. Reading such stories can only help us develop a greater trust in God and an eagerness to approach Him with our own heartfelt intentions and petitions.

Everything God Created is Good

Faithful Creator

Psalm 121:1-2

I lift up my eyes toward the mountains: whence shall help come to me? My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

The ancient Hebrews regarded the top of the mountains as the special abiding place of God. To keep their vision fixed on eternal values, they raised their eyes to the mountain top.

If we lift our eyes "toward the mountains" we are going directly to the very source of our help, the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.

St. Peter's advice is sound: "Let those who suffer as God's will requires continue in good deeds, and entrust their lives to a faithful Creator." (1 Pt 4:19)

Danger

If you teach your 8 year old daughter to bake chocolate chip cookies, she will. In double batches. That come out smelling and tasting better than anything you ever baked. And there they will lie, in all their chocolaty chewiness, spilling across your kitchen counter tops in extravagant abundance.

Devil Child.

Best Ever (Really!) Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 ½ cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup shortening
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
1 ½ tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
¾ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine flour, soda, and salt and set aside. Cream together shortening and sugars until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs and beat well.

Add flour mixture to shortening mixture and mix until blended. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by heaping tablespoons onto an ungreased baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from the oven and place cookies on a cooling rack.

On a personal note…

At the airport

Observing human nature can be very interesting.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to observe plenty of it during an enforced 7-hour wait in Gatwick airport’s departure lounge. Britain was struck by an arctic blizzard, causing a snowfall of about 2 inches in not many more hours. The sight of children playing snowballs, trees etched in exquisite tracery against the heavily-laden grey sky… all of that was wonderful.

Then came the airport…

At first, recognising that there was little that could be done, people were friendly and peaceful, accepting the inevitable. Within a very short time, complete strangers chatted as though they had known each other for many years, finding amusement in the antics of some of the children dotted around the departure lounge with their parents. Two small Irish boys had been with a Scot and were trying out the Scottish accent (without any success, I amight add) added to their new catch phrase, “I don’t know, brother.” They were fascinating in their attemepts.

Daily Readings
8 Tue: Easter Weekday

From today's readings: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.... Into Your hands I commend my spirit; You will redeem me, O LORD, O faithful God.... Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven - My Father gives you the true bread from Heaven.”

Bread of Life

After the multiplication of the loaves, the crowds chased after Jesus in hopes of another free meal. When Jesus then explained that they should work for imperishable food, and explicitly linked that with belief in Him, the crowds grew excited, and challenged Him to match the miracle of the manna, when the Israelites were given a steady supply of bread from Heaven for forty years.

Instead of turning down the challenge, Jesus ups the ante with a triple contrast: “Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but My Father [who] gives you the true bread from Heaven!”
